Oliver Tree, the California-born singer-songwriter and rapper known for tracks like "Life Goes On," "When I'm Down" and "Miss You," died in a helicopter crash in Rio de Janeiro, according to CNN Brazil.

John Newman has spoken out following the death of Oliver Tree, and claimed more has to be done to protect artists.

“We are shocked and saddened by Oliver’s untimely passing. He was a remarkable talent—a gifted artist and songwriter who forged a thoroughly unique and captivating style,” Warner Music Group said.
